Description of Pest/Symptoms

Ips kills saplings, pole sized trees, young trees up to 26 inches in diameter and the tops of even larger trees. It often breeds in slash and recently downed material and spreads from there to live trees. The larval mines are always visible on the outer wood and peeled bark. The gallery is situated in the cambium layer.
