Black stain


Description of Disease

During the early stages of black stain terminal growth is reduced and older needles become chlorotic. As the disease progresses older needles are shed prematurely, new needles are stunted and yellow, lateral growth is reduced. In advanced stages new growth is compact and chlorotic with a tufted appearance and the tree crown has sparse foliage. Distress cone crops are often formed in the late stages.
